Lemon Detox Diet Recipe

Tuesday, 30 September 2008

The Lemon Detox Diet ordinarily costs around $75 and it hard to understand why, when all the ingredients are so cheap.  Below are a list of the ingredients and the recipe on how to make the lemon detox drink yourself.

Don’t get sucked in with a fad diet. We have natural, proven diet plans created by nutritionists and health experts. From Low GI to Vegetarian to High Protein, we have a diet plan to suit you. Check them out

To make 1 glass of lemon detox drink add:
  • 20ml (1 tablespoon) Palm Tree Syrup (you can buy at most Sri Lankan or Indian food stores) $7.95 for 750ml.
  • 20ml (1 tablespoon) freshly squeezed lemon juice (half a lemon), $0.5 from your local supermarket.
  • Half a pinch of cayenne pepper (to taste), $2 from your local supermarket
  • 250ml of water
You can have the drink warm or at room temperature.

On the Lemon Detox Diet, dieters are encouraged to have a large glass of water each day with 1 teaspoon of salt, which helps stimulate bowl movements.  This can also be substituted with Senna tea (1 teaspoon) in the evening if the salt water drink can not be stomached.
In addition, the actual syrup used for the Lemon Detox Diet is enriched with vitamins.  As such if you follow a home recipe it is recommended you have a multi-vitamin or mega multi-vitamin each day.

To follow the diet you are meant to have between 6-10 glasses of the detox drink each day and nothing else (except for the morning salt drink or herbal tea).  The detox process is meant to be followed for between 3 – 7 days.

Whilst Australian Lifestyle & Fitness recognises there may be some benefits in riding the body of toxins, we do not recommend this diet for weight loss purposes and should only be undertaken in consultation with your doctor.  This article serves to highlight the high cost of this diet (approx $75) when it only costs around $10 to make yourself.

No expensive potions, no pills, no scams. Our natural program puts you in charge of achievable weight loss. We supply the tools and expert advice to keep you motivated. Find out more about healthy, achievable weight loss.

You can buy a brand of palm syrup/treacle called 'MD' KITHUL TREACLE for $7.00, 750ml. I got mine in Brisbane from Santoshi India House Brisbane. Their stores are located at Upper Mt Gravatt, Redcliffe, Strathpine and Cannon Hill. The number to call is 1300 101 888.

I am about to try this recipe with the MD Kithul Treacle. Has anyone had any success with this brand? (ie is the weight loss comparable to the "real" one?). Thanks.

Ive been researching many of these recipes and many websites say you can use 100% maple syrup (not flavoured ones). First day today and I'm really excited. I am also taking multivitamins to make sure I still get what I need to function.

True that everybody want to make an income and return from years of experimentation, however your approach shows ignorance, or rather primitive, since the quality make everything work or not. first this is not a weight loss program, it is a detox ----The maple syrup is only one and not the most important ingredient, besides every commercially made (even health food shop quality) showed inferior in kineziology muscle test on everyone. Either the quality--or the Aflatoxin in them (according to Dr Clark)make the products not bio-available, or can have adverse sideeffect to sensitive individuals. I personally did not find expensive since it is ready-made with heaps of information in the accompanying book.

A friend of mine recommended this to me. Both her and hubby lost heaps of weight which they've managed to keep off for a month now. They liked it so much, they are going to do it just for an energy booster every 6months. I'm starting tomorrow using this homemade recipe. Bit nervous about how I will cope for 10 days without "real" food. But determined to kickstart weight loss and cleanse my body of gunge. Will post each day during 10 days and following 4 days of re-intro to norm food. Then once a week for a month to let others know if I've managed to keep off weight with healthy eating and regular exercise :-)

Made it through day one. 1kg lost so far (to be expected). Had the typical symptoms you'd expect from abstaining from food. A little light headed and nausea. Really missed the socialisation associated with food. Especially sitting down with the family for dinner! Hanging in there. Supposedly day3/4 is the turning point.

Sorry guys, I'm out! I've not been as sick as I was yesterday in years! I had to stop even though I understand the whole detox system and the fact that day 2/3 is the worst. The main problem was that I could no longer take the drink. Everytime I tried to drink it, I immediately began to vommit to the point where I was dry wretching. So I'm just going to have to loose weight the old fashioned way. Slowly, but surely. I've done it before and lost 30kgs. So surely I can lose the 12 kgs I've put on with my last pregnancy to get back down to my trim pre-baby bod again! Good luck everyone :-)

I have passed the 7 day lemon detox using the original product.Exceptional.It really works - Have lost 5 kilos - alot of power walking whilst on the detox.Feel great.look great.Inspired me to eat healthy for life.Basically I'd make up my own syrup by diluting palm sugar with hot water, and adding maple syrup or honey...just experiment yourself. Then make up the drink with lemon and cayenne pepper.IMPORTANT.you must drink a litre of salted water in the morning to purge your bowel....elminate waste.Eat the lemon pulp as ell if you like...Good luck all.

Hi Guys, I started this detox with my friend yesterday. She had little problem with the taste of the drink but I think it is revolting! It's not the worst I have ever tasted but it is certainly not something i will be able to stick to so I am going to try taking the ingredients in a different way. I am going to take 2 tablespoons 7 times a day of the syrup and add the lemon into water for the rest -making sure I drink the required amount of water. The senna tea is good but the salt is really hard to drink. I am going to replace that with the senna tea twice a day and a shot of salt water in the morning...see what happens. My friend is sticking to the traditional way so will keep you posted on how we go!! fingers crossed....

I started the Lemond Detox Diet this mornign, it's now 2.09pm and I feel like I am going to vomit. I have only had two glasses of the lemon drink stated above and one glass of Senna Tea. Omg the taste was horrible, I am gagging thinking about it. I think I will stick to just maintaining a healthy diet with plently of greens and lots of water... Please don't do it it's seriously so Yuck!!!!

Hi, I started the lemon detox yesterday, I bought the proper kit from my health food shop though. So far so good except for the salt water drink. Yesterday I put it in the litre of water as required but could only get through half of it, today I thought i'd mix the salt into a bit of water and drink that then drink the litre of water.... within 10 mins I'd thrown up all the water I'd drunk as well as the salt. Tomorrow I might drink the litre of water and then try and shot the salt!! I'll see if I can keep that down! Apart from that everything is good. No hunger pains and the drink acutally tastes ok!

Well, I'm at the end of the 3rd day now and still can't stomach the salt water but apart from that it's all going smoothly. I served up roast chicken, potato salad and vegies for my daughter and partner for dinner and with my cast iron will managed to overcome the temptation to eat it myself!! I think I can get through the 10 days with no problems. It takes will power though!

Beginning of day 5 and still going strong :o) I must admit it was torture making dinner for the family last night but I did get through it! I have not done this for weight loss but more to rid my body of the nasty's I am constantly putting into it, hence I have not weighed myself at all, even before I started. But, I have noticed that weight has been coming off. At 58kg (130lbs I think??) I dont actually need to lose weight but as I say it is coming off. I'm thinking it would work wonders on overweight people :o) And good luck Elle!!!!

Thinking of doing this as well - just to get rid of nasties not to lose weight. Pls keep me posted on how it's going. Seems to me that the people succeeding are using the real product and those making it themselves are not enjoying it as much?

Hello I'm planning on going on the detox next week. Can anyone suggest where to get the syrup from in Sydney near the CBD?? Thanks also has anyone else done the detox and kept the weight off after? I'm just worried to do it and then pile the weight back on as soon as you start to eat (obviously have to eat healthily)

Twelve months ago, I wanted to try this Lemon Detox Diet. The owner of the health food shop advised me to save my $$ and make the Lemon Detox drink myself with water, lemons, cayenne pepper and 100% Canadian Maple Syrup. So I did. Stuck to it for several days, and drank alot of water inbetween lemon drink. Yes I lost some weight, but lacked the energy I needed for strenuous exercise. Slowly started to put the weight back on soon after. Now losing the weight the correct way - dedicated exercise and healthy eating. Forget the promises that fast weight lose programs offer. In the long term, they don't work, and you don't know what the long term effects these will have on your body.

I started my detox last night and so far feel okay. I have found that the drink (I purchased the kit from the health food shop), while delicious at first sip has a very tree-like aftertaste. I am overcoming this by holding my nose while drinking it, I know it sounds silly but I will do whatever gets me through the week! I have also been focusing on the detox as my primary goal, if I lose weight that will be a pleasant side effect. Good luck everyone!

I am in day 5 of 7 of the diet. I can recommend the kit. I have not used the salt water, you can have just the senna tea instead. I've lost weight and feel good. The book in the kit explains why the palm tree syrup is used and not other products such as maple syrup or honey. I ordered my kit from a heath shop here in Canberra.

lol at cokemarathon :) i have done the detox before but could not last the 10 days, only got to day 5. i found it was a great kick-start to a healthy eating plan as even fruit and veg tastes amazing after you come of the detox. and also as the detox is so painful, it motivates you to eat healthily so as you don't have to go through it again. 2 years later, i'm trying to lose a few kgs after a great christmas... i make it with lemons, cayenne pepper, and real maple syrup (it's $8 instead of the $3 flavoured maple syrup at coles) at the suggestion of a health shop worker. seriously don't waste $75 on syrup.

Hi all. My husband and I are starting this detox tomorrow (Monday) morning. We are using this recipe minus the cayenne pepper for the first day as we don't have it like I thought. LOL. Anyway I have heard that this detox is a good way to kick start weightloss because it resets the tastebuds, making eating junk/fatty foods not as desirable. I'm not sure I will last the 7 days (my husband is pushing for 10) but will be happy to last 3 as my understanding is that is a good minimum to do. I'm a bit nervous.
