How to overcome comfort eating
Saturday, 30 May 2009

Many people eat for emotional reasons, when they are feeling stressed, bored or down.
Here are some ideas to help you:
- Think about the reasons why you are eating. Is it because you are actually hungry? Is it stress, boredom or tiredness?
- Identify the time you are most likely to comfort eat. Once you are aware of these times you are stringer equipped to take preventative action. It might be during morning break time at work, watching TV, late at night…..
- What can you do to prevent it?
1. Go for a walk. It doesn’t need to be a long one. Even 10 minutes will help.
2. Put on your favourite tunes and listen to some music. Switch off.
3. Read an exciting book or your favourite magazines.
4. Chat to a friend. Meet them for a coffee or pop round to see them. Try giving them a call.
5. Take a relaxing bath.
6. Work out-at the gym, pool, park or beach. Whatever takes your fancy.
7. If you still feel like eating something after, try and go for a healthy alternative such as fruit or vegetable or low-fat yoghurt.
